3 Side Hustles for the Holiday Season
The holiday season is already upon us, and as another year rolls around, it’s often a great time to reflect on personal goals, ambitions, and to plan for the future. If you have some free time and you’re looking to make some extra cash for the holiday season, a side hustle can be the perfect way to do so. Depending on your skills, interests, and availability, there are a lot of options to choose from.
If you’re looking for some inspiration on where to start, here are three side hustles that can help you earn some extra cash this holiday season:
How it works: Those signed up with TaskRabbit, also known as Taskers, are available to take on an array of different errands and projects for local customers. From cleaning to pet sitting to an array of other miscellaneous tasks, you can choose which assignments you take on based on your skills and abilities.
How much you can make: As a Tasker, you set your own hourly rate based on the services you’re offering, so this can vary widely. Some Taskers may charge $25/hour for their services, while others may charge upwards of $150/hour.
How to get started: In order to qualify as a Tasker for Task Rabbit, applicants must clear a background check, be at least 18-years-old, and have a U.S. Social Security Number. Taskers will also be charged a one-time $25 registration fee, and must have a compatible smartphone in order to manage jobs through their app. Read more about their requirements and apply to get started.
How it works: Get paid to shop—it’s as simple as that! Customers using Shipt will order their groceries online, whether through Shipt’s app or website. Shipt shoppers will then fulfill and deliver those orders as soon as possible, while staying in touch with customers throughout the process if there are any out-of-stock items or substitutions required.
How much you can make: This will vary based on experience level and other factors. Shipt reports that on average, their experienced shoppers earn anywhere from $16 to $22 an hour as a base rate, plus more with tips.
How to get started: To become a Shipt shopper, be sure that you meet their requirements, including access to a reliable car, the ability to lift more than 40 pounds, a valid U.S. driver’s license, and car insurance. Review all of their requirements and apply directly on the Shipt website.
How it works: If you have a reliable car, know your city well, and enjoy meeting and chatting with new people, becoming an Uber driver can be the perfect side hustle for you. As an Uber driver, you’ll pick up and drop off passengers, and with Uber Eats, you’ll also have the opportunity to deliver food. This side hustle is flexible, and you can choose the hours that are most convenient for you.
How much you can make: Uber drivers earn standard trip fare, but can earn more than the norm when rides are in high demand, there’s a long-distance drive, or drivers reach a set number of trips. Drivers also commonly receive gratuities from customers, and ridester.com reports that on average, Ubers typically take home $25/hour.
How to get started: Take the first step in becoming a driver for Uber by filling out an application on their website. In order to be eligible to become an Uber driver, applicants must meet the company’s driver requirements, such as accessibility to a four-door vehicle and other conditions.
